Currently one in seven school aged children are affected by internalising problems such as anxiety, depression, negative self perception and emotional distress.

Early Intervention is the key!

Self regulation involves the nervous system. Some children are born with a more calm temperament, while others may be born with an over responsive nervous system. Some children with ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder and Autism have more difficulty with identifying how they feel, and controlling their responses to stimuli.

So how can you help your child?

Enrol in our Calm Kids 8 week program, which is a social-emotional learning curriculum created by an Occupational Therapist, Leah Kuypers called ‘The Zones of Regulation’.

The Zones of Regulation is a framework designed to foster self-regulation and emotional control. Designed by an Occupational Therapist, the Zones of Regulation teaches children to independently self regulate their actions by teaching them to recognise how their body is feeling.

Zones of Regulation is a curriculum uses colours to explain the different emotions. By teaching these zones, children can learn to increase communication initiations by sharing how they are feeling and what activities they need to do to help them stay in the green zone.

Increasing communication around emotions helps decrease unwanted behaviours!

  • Blue zone- tired, sleepy, bored, sad
  • Green zone- calm, ready, happy, focused, content
  • Yellow zone- excited, anxious, nervous, surprised, worried, silly
  • Red zone- furious, angry, rage, out of control

the following skills:

Check out what other mums are saying…

Thank you for everything you’re doing for my daughter. I can tell she’s really comfortable with you because she told me she started to tell you about her worries. She really thinks your’e the worry doctor.

Jess P

I couldn’t recommend this program enough. I also saw a difference even after the first two sessions. My daughter was using the zones language every day and because I had access to the parent content I felt confident to support her at home. THANKS!

Emma

My son was hesitant to go at the start, but then after the first session he asked to go every night after school. Jenna made the program fun and engaging and my son really enjoyed attending. He also enjoyed making our calm box and cosy corner at home. I am grateful for the parent support too.

Annie

Teaching children self awareness and regulation of their emotions can play a crucial role in building a child’s self esteem, resilience and general mental well being.

FAQs

Do you have to attend all 8 sessions?

Yes, we encourage children to attend all 8 sessions, as we will continue to build on skills and strategies we learn each week. The success of the program depends on the consistency of attending and implementing strategies at home.

Can you start mid way through the 8 week program?

Unfortunately no you can’t with this program.

The content of the program is taught in sequence with each week, concept and skills developed on the previous week.

If you have missed the cut off for the dates of the 8 week program, you can email us at info@monkeyminds.com.au to pop your child’s name down for next term.

What is the maximum number of students in one class?

6 – 8 children

This allows us to have a more personal interaction with your child.

Does your program cater for my child with special needs?

This is a case by case situation. We do pride ourselves on our inclusive programs to ensure we can best assist all children.

We accept NDIS funding, so if your child has special needs, please contact us so we can discuss the best way to support them.

Does my child need to be immunised?

Yes they do, or a letter from your GP stating otherwise.

‘No Jab, No Play’ is the name of legislation that requires all children to be fully vaccinated unless they have a medical exemption to be enrolled in childcare or kindergarten in Victoria.

As we run and abide by the Childcare regulations, we are also required to adhere to the ‘No jab, No Play’ rule.

Do I need to be double vaccinated for Covid-19?

As the current Victorian Health Children Services regulations state, any parent/carer who is dropping off/ collecting their child does NOT need to be double vaccinated for your child to attend our program.

What if my child has special health requirements?

All our staff are trained in first aid and have experience in using epi-pens and asthma inhalers. If your child has any specific health conditions, please discuss this with us prior to our classes so we are able to discuss a plan with you.

Can I come to the class to?

Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions we cannot have any parents on site with us. I promise you, that once you leave all children settle within a matter of minutes. If for some reason this isn’t the case we can contact you.

What do they need to bring with them?

We ask that your child brings a drink bottle.
